Label maker gotcha

May 26th, 2005 | by mbhunter |

I bought a small label printer for my home office. It was on clearance because the next year’s model had come out, so I got it for a good price. The labels for the machine aren’t cheap, but they’re not horribly expensive, either. In any case, the labels are the profit center for the label printer company, because they’re the consumable.

The unit is pretty versatile. Among other things, it lets you change the width of the text.

What’s more versatile (and profitable) for the label printer company, though, is that the printer resets the width to WIDE every time you print a label.

Which means I need to reset the size for each label if I don’t want to run through my supply as fast.

GOTCHA!!

(My solution? I used the label printer to print an “ADJUST SIZE!” label (narrow, of course) and I affixed it right below the display on the label maker.)
