Reclaim Untold Billions of Dollars

July 14th, 2005 | by mbhunter |

OK, but seriously, this MSN.com article provides a few pointers on possibly getting at some money you’re owed:

Unclaimed billions: How much is yours?

Some possible sources of hidden cash:

  • Unclaimed property
  • Matured savings bonds
  • Insurance claims
  • Tax refunds

Generally these are sources you can check yourself, says the article — no need to hire somebody to find this money for you.

To entrepreneurs: If you want to try to find unclaimed money for profit, by all means go for it — just realize that now the cat’s out of the bag and there’s a lot of competition. Kind of like the competition that’s out there now for buying distressed real estate.

Chances are, if there’s an opportunity for a hot investment published in a big-name magazine like Forbes or Money, or if several people have written a book on how to make money doing whatever, then the big money has already been made, and you’ll be very fortunate indeed if you make much following the advice. This also goes for any e-mail offer that says,

“I’ve made millions selling left-threaded smoke-shifters, and now you can too! Here’s my secret!”

Odds are that left-threaded smoke-shifter selling has already gone the way of the buggy-whip and now the expert left-threaded smoke-shifter salesman is trying to make money not by actually selling left-threaded smoke-shifters, but by telling you how to do it.

(By the way, let me direct you to my left-threaded smoke-shifter store on eBay…)
