BlogExplosion: Not your typical traffic exchange
July 23rd, 2005 | by mbhunter |Traffic exchanges are a way to get hits to your site. The way they work:
- You sign up for the traffic exchange.
- You enter your website, and surf.
- As you view other people’s sites, they view yours. Traffic!
Great in principle. In reality, though, the traffic isn’t particularly targeted. What classifies most of your audience on the traffic exchange is that they are viewing your site so that they get credit for their own site. And you may be encouraged to surf this way, too, since on many traffic exchanges you’re just as likely to view one site as another, and have no control over what types of sites you want to view.
BlogExplosion, a manual traffic exchange solely for bloggers and blog-related services, isn’t your typical exchange, though. This exchange has a lot of extras that gets its members involved in each others’ blogs and brings interested viewers to your blog, including:
- A categorized directory of blogs in the system
- Ability to “blogmark” interesting sites as you surf
- Ability to rate a blog or comment on a blog
- The “Blog Rocket” for free hits from interested viewers
- “Battle of the Blogs” for throwing down a challenge — or accepting one — for a wager of credits, some more free views, and possibly some bragging rights!
- A lot of control over what blogs you view while surfing — ability to ban certain blogs, view blogs from particular categories, etc.
BlogExplosion is a well-designed traffic exchange for bloggers.
I encourage you to check it out here!

Although I use blog explosion…I’m not so sure that it’s where it’s at. Do you think that a lot of people just click on your blog without even reading it…I have to admit that’s what I usually do.

Hi Jackie, thanks for your comment!
TE’s leave a lot to be desired in terms of traffic quality — you’ll always get people on the exchanges who couldn’t care less about reading any of the blogs. Some blogs I see just don’t have content that interests me, but others do. No blog is going to be of interest to everyone. If it’s a personal finance blog, I usually look it over a bit.
It’s even worse with general content TE’s — it’s very easy to become a zombie and click-click-click-click-click-click because you can only read the same identical money-making program website so many times before you have it memorized. This is a point in favor of blog-only TE’s: you get a lot more variety in the blogs and much less repetition.
BlogExplosion is still a traffic exchange and suffers from the weaknesses inherent to all traffic exchanges, but it compensates for this by offering other features (rating, blogmarking, directory, etc.) that a lot of other TE’s don’t. It’s better than a lot of them for this reason.
Very interesting blog of yours by the way — I hope that you keep it going!

I personally like Blog Explosion and have gotten quite a few loyal visitors from there. the 30 second timer helps and reminding your visitors to bookmark your site are important.
If you have something worth reading they will look and come back.. just my opinion.
