Better bottle brush

September 22nd, 2005 | by mbhunter |

A little post in the “you-get-what-you-pay-for” category.

We had been getting baby bottle brushes that were less than $2 each and basically had a sponge fastened to the end of it. After a few weeks the sponge would fray and big chunks of it would fall off. After enough of the chunks fell off, it wouldn’t clean the bottom of the bottle well enough.

We did this twice. Two useless brushes.

Then we found another kind of brush made by Munchkin. It has longer bristles, and has bristles that are round shaped on the tip — no sponge. It cost almost $4, but it looks like it will last a lot longer. Also, it has a bottle nipple cleaner in the stem, so you don’t need to buy that separately.

So if you have one of the cheaper kinds, don’t replace it with the same kind — get the more expensive one that doesn’t have a sponge.

Here’s another idea, although it only works if you have a dishwaher: rinse the nipple as soon as baby’s done with the bottle, then put it in a dishwasher basket (Munchkin makes those too) and wash it in the dishwasher. The extra hot water of the dishwasher also acts a sterilizer.
