The website idea of the year

Stumble it! Tip it! Facebook it! | 09/23/05

I can’t believe this. Neither can the guy who created it. Who would’ve thought?

Check out the MillionDollarHomepage. This guy’s made $100k in less than a month. And it’s picking up steam!

My hat’s off to you, Alex Tew. Congratulations!

(And no, I don’t have an ad on the site. I did think about it, though.)

I thought about it also… but then I’m not in the mood to pay $100 to promote my site…

The first people who put ads on the site got huge amounts of traffic. A one-block ad placed early probably will get tens of thousands of click-throughs — this is cheap advertising by most standards. And the site will be up for at least 5 years.

I’m just concerned that the small ads will get lost in the shuffle after the buzz wears off. For now, though, he enjoys a lot of exposure.

It’s impressive that Alex has made so much money so far off a good marketing idea. Still – without word of mouth I can’t imagine too many people purposefully going to the page, much less clicking on a link. The site’s no Times Square or Piccadilly Circus…

Another student from France is hopping to get the same success with MegaPixelPage.com.

Check out http://www.PixelAds4All.com – they offer a FREE 100 by 100 pixel “tool tip image” with the purchase of your ad, which acts like a billboard for your site! They are also currently offering their pixels for 50% off, or $50 USD for a 100 pixel block.

My hat goes off to Alex Tew, he certainly found a unique idea to sell ad space. I actually took his idea one step further… selling ad space by the BYTE! There are so many “pixel pushers” out there now that I needed to put a spin on the pixel advertising concept. Check out http://www.buckabyte.com

I believe that Alex’s site still generates some indirect value for advertisers at least by improving their visibility in search engines. It has a PageRank of 7 and many still continue to add links to it (by the way, this article has just added one link). So, getting the link from website with such a high PageRank for as low as 1$ it is clearly a reasonable investment. Good luck to all the copycats :)
