A cool way to give cash

November 26th, 2005 | by mbhunter |

My mother-in-law comes from a big family and has lots of nieces and nephews that she doesn’t see every day. She wants to give them something, but is not sure what they would use, so she gives cash.

In order to dress up the gift a little bit she does Money Origami. My wife helped with the assembly line this year — I told you it was a big family! — and they made gift boxes for some 20 of my wife’s cousins out of two $5 bills apiece. In each of the boxes they put a Sacajawea gold dollar. So for $220 and an afternoon, they created a thoughtful and equitable gift for twenty people.

(Note: There might be a little adjustment in the designs to account for the new design of our bills — the dead President portrait is no longer in the center except for $1 and $2 denominations.)
