OK … here’s the answer to the poll!

January 21st, 2006 | by mbhunter |

The correct answer to “What is the origin of the word money?” is:

Choice (1)! (From the Roman temple ‘Moneta’, the advisor)

Two people out of 24 (8%) got this right. (I wasn’t one of them!)

The other choices:

From the Latin ‘monetarius’, pertaining to the mint: 8 out of 24 (33%)
From the French ‘monei’, currency: 2 out of 24 (8%)
From the Greek word meaning ‘metal discs’: 5 out of 24 (21%)
After the Greek philosopher Monetius, whose discourse focused on how people could trade services fairly: 7 out of 24 (29%)

Congratulations to those of you who figured out the correct answer!

If you haven’t check out Etymologic.com, go there and prepare to get your word origin backside kicked! There are lots more questions like the one above.

Anyway, check out the new poll. April 15th is almost three months away, but it’s good to think about it now, especially if you have a refund coming back!
