Kick up the spaghetti

March 29th, 2006 | by mbhunter |

We had bring-a-dish-to-share lunch at church this week.  Attendance was a little thin, probably because of March Madness, so most of the spaghetti we cooked came home with us.

We just refrigerated the pot that we cooked, which had a little sauce mixed in to about 1 1/2 pounds.

I had bought a number of bottles of hot sauce (as in take-the-roof-off-your-mouth hot) at the discount grocery store because they were Really Good Deals.  So many, in fact, that I was instructed not to buy any more — not even “if they were falling out of the sky,” in fact.
Well, I finally made use of some of those.  Normally, leftover spaghetti doesn’t get my heart racing, but zapping some of the leftover spaghetti, splashing with the hot sauce, and stirring it in is a lot tastier.  And it was only about 50 cents a pop.

I’m making a conscious effort to increase the number of meals that I prepare myself rather than buy prepared.  Eating out or eating convenience food is a daily spending drip that becomes a big drain over the years.  A few dollars a day can end up being several hundred thousand dollars in retirement.

Do you have any other tricks for dressing up the taste of leftovers?
