Check here before discarding/donating empty toner cartriges

MyMoneyBlog recently posted on how to get cheap toner using eBay and a Staples buyback of empty print cartridges for $3 each.

I had thought that Staples must make out like a bandit with this deal — surely the cartridge is a lot more expensive than the toner, so they can recover material worth many times $3, refill these empties, and re-sell them. And if so, was there anyplace else that would buy them from me and pay more?

Possibly — if you have the right model. TonerBuyer.com pays from $0.50 to $22 each for once-used, empty toner cartridges. They pay shipping as well. This is a deal only if your cartridge is worth more than $3.

TonerBuyer.com says that it goes through 300,000 cartridges per month. Buying refilled cartridges is a good way to save money, so I can believe it.
