What free software do you use?

No Credit Needed has a post on free software he uses every day.

I’m a big proponent of open-source software, since I think it’s every bit as good as commercial software, and often is better. It’s also usually really frugal — there’s great stuff out there! If I need something done with software, two of the first places I check are download.com and hotscripts.com. So here’s my list of free software:

What free software do you use? Post on it (with hyperlinks to the download sites as done above) and let me know, and I’ll post a link to it here!

I use Crimson Editor to code all of my websites. It’s a great little program if you’re turned off by the prospect of another software program writing code for you. Check it out at Crimson Editor.com.

I love Firefox and IrfanViewer. Trillian is a nice tool for multiservice chat but I like Meebo even better lately, unfortunately Meebo does not support IRC which is why I still use Trillian.

Textpad is far superior to Notepad too since it gives you your byte and line positions, which are key for me when I’m mapping out data.

I like OpenOffice.org: it has all the functionality that I’d need from MS Office, but for free.

I’m also a HUGE fan of Eclipse for Java development. It’s one of the best development environments I’ve ever used.
