Finally got with the program

I got an ING savings account. Not sure really why I hadn’t before except inertia.

ING currently pays on the low end for online bank accounts, but there were other factors that led me to choose ING. I went with ING because they’ve been around for quite a while (they may have been one of the pioneers of online savings accounts) so I was going more for track record than for high teaser yields. It’s still 4% higher than my current checking account, so I’m pretty happy with that. The sign-up for the account was easy, straightforward, and professionally presented.

The security features on the login page are quite nice. I love the PIN entry: You don’t have to type on the keyboard; you can click on the screen as if entering your PIN on an ATM keypad. Or, you enter random letters associated with the numbered keys rather than the numbers themselves. This defeats keystroke loggers either way.

Also, it looks like some of the restrictions on other internet banking accounts aren’t really there with ING.

I can send you a link that gave me gives you a $25 bonus with an initial deposit of $250 or more. Just let me know!

While there are other online banks offering a higher interest rate, I certainly wouldn’t characterize ING as “one of the lowest interest rates around.” The bonus is also quite attractive if you don’t keep a lot of money in your savings account.

It’s worthwhile to set up a page for the ING invites you have as you will convert a lot more than having to email back and forth from my experience

Good point SA — it’s probably more accurate to say one of the lower interest rates compared with other online bank accounts.
