PayPal wants to give me $25 for taking a 4-question survey?!

Yeah right.

Looks like a new phishing tactic.  (Or at least it’s the first time I’ve seen it.)

It has the standard red flags in the e-mail (aside from common sense) like:

  • Writing style is rough around the edges
  • Link URL in e-mail doesn’t match where it sends you
  • Link that you’re sent to doesn’t start with https:// (though this one had “secure” and “ssl” in the name!  Suuuure it’s secure!)

The website was pretty blatant phishing.  It not only asked for my PayPal e-mail and password, it asked for a credit card, the verification code, the expiration date, and the “PIN number.”  Don’t really know why they need a credit card to credit my $25 reward if they have my PayPal account, but I imagine they figured if I was dumb enough to give them my account e-mail and password, why not go for the whole magilla?

I’ve read several posts about bloggers that participate in offers and surveys for extra money, so this kind of scam caters to this activity.  Forewarned is forearmed!
