Questions of the day — a historical retrospective of the past
September 4th, 2006 | by mbhunter |This is old news but after checking out the response to the AllFinancialMatters Question of the Day Marathon it was a great success. Lots of thought-provoking questions.
The second half of the questions dealt with such varied topics as side income, vices, your money management roots, landmark credit purchases, checking account balances, and unemployment disaster plans, as well as hobbies, values, careers, recent spending, and money and you.
All excellent questions, and excellent responses. I’d like to draw more attention to the ones dealing with side income and unemployment planning. These are very important topics to consider because they’re related. By development of side businesses you buy yourself a few more baskets to put your eggs in. If you lose your main gig you’ve already replaced some of that income, and can go longer as you either look for another job or go full-bore on those businesses so that you can say goodbye to the pointy-haired boss forever. Side income lessens the effect of a sudden job loss.
(Note: A list related to this might be good for our ongoing group writing project on preparing for or dealing with job loss!)
Thanks JLP for a great project!
