Auctioneering school: Day 3

November 7th, 2006 | by mbhunter |

Some more bid calling and number drills.  We also learned about the auction business: conducting real estate auctions, how to sell, whether to include a buyer’s premium or not, etc.

We saw demonstrations of auction management software that handles clerking, advertising bills, invoices, settlement, and many other details.  We also saw auction website hosting solutions.  (A little pricey, but if the business gets going it’s pretty affordable outsourcing of advertisement and marketing.)

Tomorrow’s auction (the first of two) will be a benefit auction for St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.  Two students in the class have already donated over $1,800 in a small auction we had tonight by purchasing a St. Jude’s necktie and a St. Jude’s scarf.   These items are for sale only through St. Jude’s fundrasiding events, like the one we’re doing during the school.

So far, so good!
