Auctioneering school: Day 4

November 8th, 2006 | by mbhunter |

Our first live auction went pretty well last night.  All of the items that were sold were donated by the auction school, local companies, and the students.  It’s much different selling in a real setting (with smoke, engines running, crowded conditions) with people bidding real money.  In class, everyone’s bidding because there’s no cost.  When people have to pay for the items, the bids come a lot harder.

I was near the end, so I had plenty of time to get nervous, but did pretty well.  I guess if my items get sold, that’s really most of what matters.

Very cool – it would seem going last, though you were nervous, allowed you time to see the positive things and mistakes other made.

You’re going to have to post an audio clip of your auction patter. I love listening to live auctions at state fairs and agricultural shows. The posh setting at Christie’s really isn’t the same thing, is it?
