Auctioneering school: Days 5 and 6

November 10th, 2006 | by mbhunter |

We’ve had classes on more kinds of auctioneering, including charity auctions, cattle auctions, heavy equipment auctions, automobile auctions, and antique auctions.  Also we received a presentation from the National Auctioneers Association.
A couple of champion bid callers have come in to give pointers and critique our chants.  There are distinctive styles for different kinds of auctions.  If there are hundreds or thousands of items, or lots, to be moved, then the pace of the auction is a lot faster.  Automobile auctions are called differently than livestock auctions, and differently than estate or antique auctions.

Tonight is our second auction, consisting largely of antiques and collectibles.  The people who went last on Tuesday will go first tonight, so I’ll be up third.
