And now, a virtual word from our sponsor H&R Block
March 19th, 2007 | by mbhunter |H&R Block, a sponsor of this site, has really done it now. They’re virtual!
The tax preparation company has created H&R Block Island in the virtual world that is Second Life. Features of H&R Block Island include:
- Free tax advice from real tax professionals! “Hope Bechir” and “Rex Philbin” will be available from 6-7 PM PDT on Tuesdays and Thursdays through tax time. (Note to H&R Block SL team: I hope that if demand for this free service increases that Hope and Rex might increase their virtual office hours to meet the demand — or bring in some other friends! Being there — a lot — for the SL community in an unassuming way is key. Maybe even some non-tax-related stuff. I’m serious!)
- A virtual auditorium with information about the new Tango tax product, and more.
- A very reasonably priced package that includes access to the Tango product plus some virtual scooters and other Second Life virtual goodies. The price tag of 100 Linden Dollars (L$ 100) is about 40 US cents (US$ 0.40). So if this is full access to the US$ 70.00 Tango package, this is a steal!
- Other virtual events through tax season.
I’m not an avid Second Lifer but I do have a free account and I did check out H&R Block Island (log into your SL account and click on this link here — if you don’t have a SL account, you can get one for free). H&R Block Island is pretty well done and the navigation is clear. I didn’t go there when the tax pros were in but if I can get to the computer while they’re in the office I’ll try to talk to them.
The main takeaway from this is if you had interest in the Tango service, get it in Second Life and it’s just about free.
This concludes a virtual word from our sponsor, H&R Block.
