Yard sale deal this weekend
June 4th, 2007 | by mbhunter |Our county has a flea market the first Saturday of each warm-weather month. After going to a few of them, some of the same folks show up each time to sell, but there are still new sellers that show up. Some sell only one month, and there’s a good opportunity for deals with these sellers because they’re generally trying to clear out stuff rather than turn over inventory.
There was a new seller at this month’s flea market. Really nice woman. She was selling some of her brother’s things, and had a couple of decent-sized boxes of CDs on the table. When I went over there, there was a lot of good stuff in them. Tons of Springsteen, Peter Gabriel, R&B, jazz. I think her brother was a guitar player or just loved guitar. And she was selling them pretty inexpensively — $15 for 10. The more I looked through them, the more I liked them. They were in great condition, and it was a great collection. The woman told me that her brother took great care of his collection, and would keep the titles alphabetized. I spot-checked some of the CDs and the discs were almost always aligned straight up and down in the case. I was confident that the CDs were all in great shape.
I asked her if she would entertain an offer for all of them. She said sure. We counted the cases — 358. She took $350 for all of them. Later I found that some of the CDs were double CD sets in a single flip-case.
After I brought over the cash she asked me if I was a music lover or a dealer. I told her that I was mostly a music lover but that I did have an eBay store and would probably sell a few of them. But I’d listen to many of them before I did that. I think she was a little relieved that I wasn’t just going to list the entire collection on eBay — which I probably could quite easily — but instead was going to enjoy many of them the way her brother did. We also exchanged phone numbers so that I could look at some box sets that she didn’t have the room to bring to the sale.

What a great deal. I’m sure you already have a few of tht titles in your collection, but you should be able to bundle a few of them and sell them off. As a music lover, I can appreciate a find like that! I hope you enjoy all the great music you got!
