New online resource from H&R Block

March 5th, 2008 | by mbhunter |

Our sponsor H&R Block has a new online tax time resource over at Digits.hrblock.com.  The folks over there are hoping to add a little multimedia pizazz to this year’s tax season.  Here are some of the features from that site that I found worthwhile or fun:

  • Life Support Podcasts — a number of short audio clips on various tax topics, like tax bloopers, recordkeeping, correcting your W-2, and the tax implications of self-employment, educational expenses, real estate, and investments.  The ones I listened to got to the point quickly.
  • Tools of the Trade — quick worksheets that help you estimate your taxes, both the traditional tax and the AMT, help you find deductions, and help you to organize what paperwork you need to do your taxes.  This last one, OrganizIt, I went through and found quick and helpful.
  • FAQs regarding the 2008 tax rebate plan — this was a link from the Digits homepage.  Sixteen questions and answers about the 2008 tax rebate, such as “Will I have to claim the rebate as income?” (Answer: No) and “When should I expect my rebate if I’m getting one?” (Answer: May).
  • Tax pros in Second Life — this was rolled out in 2007 and it’s back again for Linden enthusiasts.  Party down on the virtual dance floor with vectorized number-crunchers.
  • The Deductor — where else can you get chased around by auditors on levitating surfboards?

There’s my take!  Check out Digits, and feel free to leave your impressions of the new service here.
