New Larry Winget book is on the way

January 14th, 2009 | by mbhunter |

I stopped by Borders while I was in town tonight and read part of Larry Winget’s People Are Idiots And I Can Prove It! It took me a little hunting to find it, though.  I started by heading over to the personal finance section — his last book was You’re Broke Because You Want To Be, after all — but it wasn’t there.  It was in the psychology section, which is probably more appropriate for this one.

So, when I came home, I went to Amazon.com and ordered it.  We have Amazon Prime and I had $10 in gift certificates that I earned by searching the web through SwagBucks, so it cost me all of a few bucks shipped to my door by the end of the week.

Anyway, People Are Idiots … is written in his standard “break ‘em down, shake ‘em up, point ‘em in the right direction” style that is his trademark.  He freely admits that none of the suggestions he makes in the book are new.  They’re the same old thing.  To lose weight, you have to eat less and exercise more.  To become wealthy, you have to spend less and earn more.  And so forth.

What’s different is how he goes about motivating people to take his suggestions.  It’s all about psychology.  It’s the same kind of psychology that makes Dave Ramsey brilliant, because if we all did what we knew was right, we wouldn’t be in nearly the amount of hurt we are in now.  It can be a very effective tool to get our emotions involved, either by slaying a little debt dragon, or by getting angry at the mess we’ve made with our lives.

I liked the clarity of what I read earlier tonight, and look forward to reading the rest of People Are Idiots And I Can Prove It! when it comes in.

Good advice. It is important to motivate yourself to save. Our website focuses on how every individual family can save something. That something can turn into more and we share a system to make your savings rise. Then we show you how to put that money to work for you!

Dave Ramsey is pretty brilliant. People have to stop chasing their credit score. It is important, but you better prepare the fundamentals of saving automatically and learn the easy ways to save additional amounts by tricks. That’s what we try to show people in The Sticky Asset.

Good call on the way you ordered the book, too. Saving is the way to make sure you will be okay even in economic downturn.

    Thank you.

Thanks for the info .. took me 2 minutes to jump over to my local library website and order it for free. I’m 3rd in the hold line up, so that’s pretty quick for a brand new book! YAY! Gotta love free!

The title alone would lead me to consider buying this book! It seems like a common sense bunch of information, but we certainly have no insurance in this modern world that common sense is commonplace at all… there is definitely a market for this kind of thing.

The paperback title is different (I think it’s now called The Idiot Factor), due to the publisher feeling the title was too abrasive.

I enjoy Winget’s books – the reason they seem so abrasive is because (I would argue) so many people are raised in a “kid gloves”-like manner, which leads a lot of people to the problems that Winget addresses.
