An unwanted gift is a terrible thing to waste! I seriously believe that regifting is truly the best way to recycle unwanted gift waste!! Why shouldn't people be able to feel comfortable giving someone a gift that they have already gotten, when the person that they need to give a present to would possibly appreciate it even more? There is no shame in regifting. There are no such thing as bad regifts, only bad regifters! It truly can be done with class and creativity, and you are not being just cheap and crass. Trust me, I should know....!!!

I've never felt comfortable re-gifting--seems gauche, but perhaps I should re-think my position (the financial realities will do that).

Since I rarely keep presents, I do a lot of re-gifting. This can be a slippery slope. I once just barely averted disaster when I realized that the scented candles I was bringing as a hostess present had been given to me by the same hostess. I had just enough time buy a box of fancy chocolates. As it turned out, my friend was on a diet and couldn’t keep sweets in the house. Her guests ate some, then she insisted that I take the rest home. I guess you could call that de-gifting!

Great article! I absolutely love the idea of re-gifting. After all, one man's junk is another one's treasure... it's amazing how blessed a person can be from something they truly appreciate or need that we ourselves do not need.

Since my daughter was born, we have received so many things that we didn't want or need. I've finally learned to save the best of this bunch and pass them along to someone who might find more use in the gift.

As a side not, please be tactful and don't re-gift to the person who gave (when it isn't a joke). My grandma saved a gift, wrapped it up, and gave it back to me the next year for Christmas!
