Nine frugal last-minute Halloween costumes that rely on puns

Halloween is Sunday, and you don’t have a costume yet?  Fear not!  Here are nine quick and easy Halloween costumes that won’t break the bank, and will at least give you a few groans from incredulous passersby.  To make it a little more fun, I’ll post the answers in the comments so that you have a chance to try to guess what the pun-ch line is.   (If you’re on the home page of the blog, then just click on the title of this post to go to the post’s page, and then scroll down for the comments.)

Here they are:

1. Take an old coat.  Take a few index cards and write sayings like, “Your piece of cake is bigger!” and “You said 10 o’clock.  Now it’s 10:02 and you’re not ready yet!” and “Mom did always like you best!”  Tape them to the coat.
2. Take a sportcoat.  Get a legal pad, and write a whole bunch of very official looking legalese on several pages.  Tape them to the sportcoat.  Optional:  Grab an old briefcase or attache and stuff some more legal paper in it, and close it so the edges of the legal paper peek out.
3. Get a couple of pieces of yellow construction paper, and make a crown out of it (like kings wear).  (Or visit Burger King and get a crown from there.)  Wear this, and carry around a toilet brush or plunger.
4. Grab an old sheet.  Cut it down to size so that you can wear it on your head in a way that drapes over your body, and that you won’t trip over it when you walk.  Now cut holes in it all over.  Cut a couple of holes for your eyes so that you can see.
5. Take an old sheet and cut it down to size so that you wear it like a backwards bib (that is, it drapes over your back).  Draw a giant letter “S” on the sheet.  Wear this, and carry around a cheap set of watercolor paints, and a brush.  Extra points if you have a beret that you can wear on your head.
6. Take a spool of red ribbon.  Wrap yourself in the red ribbon any way you want.
7. For guys:  Dress up in a suit (like “business formal”).  Carry around a coffee mug full of thumb tacks and push pins.
8. Another one for guys:  Put on a poncho or raincoat.  Walk around with an open umbrella above your head.
9. Take four or five plastic beverage bottles (16-ounce to 24-ounce is good), clean them out, and wrap a string a few times around the top of each one so that you have a “chain” of bottles.  Wear this chain of bottles like a necklace.
